Carros de Foc

The counties or "comarques" of Pallars Sobira, Pallars Jussa, Alta Ribagorça and Val d'Aran contain one of the best preserved and most beautiful areas of the Pyrenees: The Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park. Discovering these places has always been a pursuit of mountaineers. THis is perhaps one of the reasons why refuges or huts first started to appear in the area, their purposse being to make these crossings easier. With the passing of time these refuges have blended into the landscape. We can now find a total of nine guarded refuges and these offer us the possiblility of exploring the area through a combination of various routes and itinerairies. The Carros de Foc (chariots of Fire) trek forms a loop. It takes 5 to 7 days to complete and covers the entire Park. It is divided into different stages with the refuges acting as departure and arrival points.
